The Lineage

Master Hsu Hong-Chi

Born in Taipei, Taiwan, in a family of six brothers, Hsu Hong-Chi was a devoted and respectful son. At the young age of six he was taken to a Buddhist monk to have his future told. He was informed that he would one day be a leader of a large association and would be respected throughout the world — a prophecy that proved remarkably accurate.

In school he participated in sports including swimming, soccer, and judo. His father started him in Shaolin kung-fu at an early age. He also learned boxing and became a formidable street fighter. After many years of Shaolin kung-fu, Master Hsu discovered the effectiveness of Hsing-I and began studying under Master Hong-I Hsung. His father wanted him to attend college, but Hsu Hong-Chi chose the path of Taoist techniques and Hsing-I kung-fu instead.

He opened his first God Dragon Hsing-I school in May 1966. By 1970 he was teaching at five universities. In 1972 he was given special access to military installations — three more military classes began at air bases and naval compounds. He founded his own association which spread to many countries. Master Hsu served as head of his association and as a special advisor to the Bok Mei Kung-fu Association of Hong Kong, the Japan Karate Federation, and the Taipei Athletic Association.

Master Hsu was known as "The Man With the Magic Hands" for his extraordinary healing abilities. James McNeil studied under him from 1977 to 1984 in Taipei, receiving extensive training in Chi-Kung, Hsing-I, Tui-Na, and acupressure. Master Hsu passed away unexpectedly in 1983, after which Master Chiao Chang-Hung accepted McNeil as his first and only American student.
